Chinese Animals Origins

The selection and yearly order of the chinese animals that influence people’s lives was originated back in 202BC. Those were the times of the Han dynasty. The selection was based on each animal’s character and living habits. Each animal sign was related to an earthly branch, so the animal years were called accordingly. The order of the chinese animals is strictly determined. And it goes like this: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig.

Nowadays this tradition, with its twelve-year cycle, is popular in the Western world as much as in Asia. Known as Sheng Xiao in China, it is called the Chinese zodiac in Western countries.
