Your Destiny number (also known as your Expression number) is another part of your numerological predictions. It adds depth and layers to your Life Path Number while using your full name not your date of birth. It is said that your parents intuitively choose your name before your birth to match your energy. Ok, so why is this number so important?

What is an Expression Number?

Your Expression number lets you discover your hidden skills, talents, and your potential in general. It shows you the things you’re good at (even if you don’t know it yet!). It shows you what’s possible, in other words, how you can best live your life!

Embracing this knowledge, and moving towards your potential can help you conquer the emotional and spiritual challenges that come your way. Which is an extremely important part. Why?

The answer is quite simple: when we don’t fulfill the ideals of our Expression Number, we are not expressing our true selves and can feel restless, unfulfilled or even depressed.

Now that you know what an Expression (Destiny) number is, let’s calculate yours.

How to Calculate Your Expression (Destiny) Number

Write out your birth name (including middle name). Be sure to use the real name written on your birth certificate Do not use nicknames, married or other changed names, as well as Junior / Senior, etc.

Use the numerology chart below to assign a number to each letter of your name. For this example we will use the name Mary Jane Doe, which would be:

  • M(4) A(1) R(9) Y(7)
  • J(1) A(1) N(5) E(5)
  • D(4) O(6) E(5)

Add up the numbers of your first name: Jane: 1+1+5+5=12. Reduce to a single digit: 1+2=3

Do the same for your middle (if you have one) name. Mary: 4+1+9+7=21. Reduce to one digit: 2+1=3

One more time for your last name. Doe: 4+6+5=15. Reduce to a single digit: 1+5=6

Add the single digit values of your first, middle, and last name. In this example, we’ll add 3+3+6=12.

If you get an 11 or 22, stop here and do not add these up. These are called master numbers and remain as is (you can read about master numbers here.) ] Otherwise, reduce the value to a single digit: 1+2=3. Congrats! The Expression number for Mary Jane Doe is 3!
